Dueling tabléfonos: iPhone vs. 6 Plus Samsung Galaxy Notes – CNET Spanish

Now that Note 4 is already here, it’s time to see how it compares to the iPhone 6 Plus, more big phone in Apple’s history.

When I wrote my analysis about the iPhone 6 Plus, let it clear that I was a long-time user of Samsung Note, so many people asked me what I thought the new iPhone compared to the Note. I wrote several articles about it, but then everyone wanted to know why not compare the new iPhone 6 Plus with Note 4 instead of the Note 3. A conspiracy to make them look bad to the Android device? Not at all. It happens that at the time the Note was not yet available in April and all I had to compare was my Note 3.

But now the situation is different. Wear several weeks carrying a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and iPhone 6 Plus … and, well, my Note 3. Yes, go for the world three tabléfonos the sole purpose of seeing how compared with each other and be able to share my impressions. My pockets are stuffed and my pants seem to fall all the time, but I hope it all worthwhile to give this comparison in the segment of large phones, also known as tabléfonos or phablets .

If you still have not, I recommend reading our review of the Galaxy Note 4. And now, let’s see how has been the experience of living with all these gadgets .

Note 3 vs. Note 4

With each new version of Note (and I’ve already using three of them) tend to think the same thing: “Wow! this is much better than the last generation, “I thought the Note 2, the Note 3 and Note 4 were better than their predecessors

Eye.. I have not loved everything about the Note 3. If While I enjoyed the feeling of her back leatherette, I think adding those fake stitches to give the impression of having been sewn by hand was a bit much. Also the chrome plastic frame around already cracked, just where the stylus is placed, and is scratched and worn at multiple sites. – although almost always use a cover

In Note 4 Samsung has addressed most of these complaints, but the result is far from perfect. A metal chassis now replaces the chrome, dark and matte plastic in most, but is accented with chamfered edges. I confess I am not a fan of polished metal on the phones, but that’s something that really works here. At least I thought it worked until these banks started to show scratches. There were a number of scratches and damage although this phone deal very carefully. Fortunately, lots matte no signs of use yet.

The new metal frame means greater rigidity compared to Note 3 and for some reason the metal appearance inspires a sense of a device more premium plastic one. That said, the rear is still made of plastic. It has the same feeling that sort faux fur before, but the stitches are no longer listed. Somehow, Samsung has made life even harder rear to remove and replace it before but it is worth the possibility of a removable battery.

Note 4 vs. iPhone 6 Plus

You note 4 feels more premium as its predecessor, but does that mean that equals the iPhone 6 in terms of look and feel in your hands? Unfortunately no, it’s not. With the Note in hand and iPhone in the other, one looks sleek and polished, the other square and swollen eye, I like the aesthetics of Note It looks imposing;.. It is a device that looks professional, similar to what happens with BlackBerry Bold 9900.

That said, these two tabléfonos, the Note is certainly the one that feels less comfortable in the hand. The round shape of the iPhone, of course, makes it better to take your hand. At least, it feels better on my own. In particular, the transition between the metal and the plastic on the back of the Note is difficult, but what is worse is the transition from metal to glass.

Both the iPhone and the Note have glass edges rounded. However, the glass on the Apple phone makes a smoother transition to the chassis of the device; the edge of the glass in the Note actually recessed behind the frame. Thus, instead of creating a beautiful finish device for enjoying on your fingers, becomes a kind of trench. And this, it is a perfect place to gather dust. . Good luck with keeping your device clean

In support of Samsung, I do not care to throw to the ground the Note; first, because it feels like the strongest of the two, and second, because it is easier to hold firmly. That brushed aluminum on the back of the iPhone is very nice, but does not give the best grip to say.

Fingerprint Reader

I decided to treat this issue separately, for the recognition of fingerprinting has become an increasingly important feature of a smartphone since the iPhone 5S introduced Touch ID. Having analyzed the phone, having to type numbers to unlock my Note it felt like an abrupt return to the Stone Age . Fortunately, Samsung was quick to add fingerprint readers on their own phones, but the Note 4 simply does not work so well.

With Touch ID, just hold your finger on the Start button to unlock your device. No matter the direction. It works great most of the time, and if not, just press again. The only time I’ve had problems is when I was wet fingers – or when wearing gloves, of course

Note the sensor will have to drag your finger along the narrow Start button. something that is a bit hard to do with one hand on a phone of this size. That’s especially true given that need to slide down. I’d say I had about a 50 percent recognition when I tried to unlock the phone with one hand, and annoyingly, if the reading of the fingerprint was wrong immediately featured a box to enter the password manually. You must give a touch of “OK” before trying again. ( Update:. as I noted a reader, this box to enter the code is linked to the option to delete the phone after 15 failed attempts to register If you disable this option in the setting the lock screen will not appear) .

This is simply outrageous, but it gets worse. If, for some reason, the reader can not read your fingerprint, or if you get tired of trying, the only backup option is to enter an alphanumeric password of at least six digits. On the iPhone, is a four-digit PIN

Finally, there is a seemingly arbitrary limitation and annoying. You can only store three fingerprints on the Note. The iPhone can only handle five, which is not a huge difference, but enough for me, because I want to store the two indexes and two thumbs on each hand. In that sense, the Note remains short one.

More to come

This is just the beginning. Later I will set aside my Note 3 for focus in Note 4 and iPhone 6 Plus, and see if Recent updates made to Note 4 take you further. You may remember, but last time when I had to choose, I said that I would take the Note 3. Will that has changed in the last month?

Be sure to connect with CNET in Spanish, as we will be doing more and more tests and comparisons of these kings of tabléfonos. Let down here your questions, comments and what they would like to find out about these devices.
