As far this year, Samsung has already launched its Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge and it seems that the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is coming in July, three months earlier than you expected. The company continues to work hard to regain his Mojo and see grow again both their income and profits. And while everyone is watching to see what happens to the hardware that the company serves and sales it generates, the truth is I think the most important product of Samsung is an App (or better a platform) that already launched (whether in Beta and restricted to certain markets) is free and is called Flow.
Flow is an application that allows users to move seamlessly between their devices, allowing the passage of information, calls and contents of your smartphone to your tablet, your computer, your SmartWatch, to your TV. It is the way that Samsung is building – finally – the value of its ecosystem. It is the response of the South Korean company to what Microsoft is doing with Windows 10 and what Apple has built Continuity (possibly one of the best features of Yosemite and iOS 8).
Flow offers 4 types of “services”
1. Users can download an application from their devices.
2. Users can interact with content within an application in another of his devices.
3. Users can save for later (Samsung calls it differ) any activity.
4. Users can choose to spread their notifications to other devices (for example, if your ringing cell phone can also ring on your tablet or on your TV).
It’s nothing revolutionary (at least not if you know Continuity). However, I think it is super important to Flow Samsung for 2 reasons:
1. Samsung is the 3 (Apple, Microsoft and Samsung), which has the widest range of devices. And yet it is the least ecosystem has. Why? Because it depends on Google and Microsoft (and now self with Tizen) operating systems for their devices. This makes it impossible to create a cross, single, seamless experience that motivates users in buying other products of the same brand. Therefore it is common to see a Galaxy S5 users with an HP computer, a tablet and Lenovo LG or Sony TV. There is no reason – so far – to marry the brand completely
Look at the example of Apple.. Since leaving the iPhone sales of its computers they have not stopped growing. It is an effect of cross-selling that well managed can increase the value of the brand by offering users a unified and cross experience in a world increasingly multi-screen. It is the reason why Apple users are not just iPhone users but tend to have multiple devices of the brand. And it is why it is extremely strange that an Apple user is changed in any of its devices to another brand; because one thing is to change the phone, but quite another to change the phone + tablet + computer + watch + music + movies + books.
2. Because the future is the internet of things and Samsung is betting the Smart Home as a platform for owning digital life. A life in your fridge, the stove, the washing machine, your thermostat, windows and other are connected and share information. And clearly Flow can be the basis of all this.
For now Flow is in Beta, is not available in all markets and supports only Galaxy S5, S6 and S6 Galaxy Edge, the Note 4 & amp; Edge Note and Galaxy Tab. But I think it’s a good start and as I said, I think his potential is much greater than the sum of each of the devices that Samsung present throughout the year.
