Xiaomi presents ‘My Note’, his weapon against the iPhone – CNNExpansión.com

BEIJING (CNNMoney) – The Chinese company Xiaomi released a list of new products Thursday in Beijing, including a smartphone badge that said rival the Apple iPhone 6 Plus.

The company showed thousands of enthusiastic following four major developments. The star was the phone My Note, which has a 5.7 inch screen, a Sony camera and the ability to hold two SIM cards simultaneously.

Xiaomi is the startup most valuable in the world, although its brand is little known outside Asia. Founded less than five years, the company is now the third largest smartphone maker in the world in 2014 distributed 61 million units and earned more than 74,000 yuan (12, 000 million) in sales.

Late last year, Xiaomi said it had collected 1,100 billion in financing some of the most powerful players in the technology industry. The company is now worth 45,000 million, surpassing LG, Motorola and Sony together.

Its chairman Lei Jun said the smartphone My Note is thinner and lighter than Apple’s rival product. Its price is set at 2,299 yuan ($ 370) for a 16GB model, and 2,799 yuan (450 dls) for the 64GB model.

Xiaomi also unveiled a My Note Pro, which he described as “literally the best smartphone the world to date.” At a cost of 3,299 yuan (530 US dollars), the phone offers download speeds of up to 450 Mbps.

Among the products launched on Thursday headphones and there is also a small console.

The company, which is privately held, is known in China for its cheap cell and passionate fans. The devices (which critics deride as imitations of Apple) are usually sold for less than the cost of parts and labor. Xiaomi generates most of its profits from the sale of accessories and applications.

Lei did not avoid comparisons with Apple on Thursday. Often compares the My Note to iPhone 6 Plus, highlighting the characteristics that favor their product. Perhaps the main thing is the price, the My Note cost half of what it costs an iPhone 6 Plus in China.

However, critics will surely judge the naming -the My Note- as evidence of the copycat trend of the company, as Samsung has a line of smartphones that takes the name “Note”.

“Xiaomi should take the opportunity to give their new flagship product … a shocking name to be confused with other brands unless” they wrote in Twitter Canalys analysts.

The company also has a knack for marketing and advertising campaigns have attracted a massive group of extremely loyal followers. The enthusiasm generated by the company was evident in Beijing, when the public reacted to each ad Lei with great applause.

The company encourages its engineers to talk directly with consumers, using the feedback to tweak your software . And these improvements are fast, Xiaomi updates its Android operating system every Friday.

Despite his meteoric rise, Xiaomi has recognized that faces some major challenges in 2015. The growth in the Chinese smartphone market is slowing, and domestic rivals such as Huawei and Lenovo are catching up. Expansion into Western markets will bring an uncertain destiny.
