SEOUL (Reuters) – technology giant Samsung Electronics said Sunday that it was delaying three days until the next October 1, the return to commercialization in South Korea of its new smartphone Galaxy Note 7, a measure he says is necessary to quickly complete the removal of these appliances in the country.
Samsung announced on 2 September that it would withdraw at least 2.5 million units of the Galaxy Note 7 in ten markets, including South Korea, by a defect in the battery that makes the phone even fire. The company has offered refunds or replacement devices with batteries safe.
The company expects to complete the withdrawal quickly and resume sales in the fourth quarter in order to save their benefits, but this last accident in South Korea highlights the challenges still faced.
even Though the exchanges of devices in South Korea began last Monday, only about 200,000 affected customers have delivered their devices, half of the customers affected, according to Samsung, in a process of withdrawal that is being much slower than in other markets such as Singapore and the united States.
Samsung hopes to resume sales in the affected markets once you have achieved sufficient progress in the withdrawal of phones and has already announced that he wants to re-sell the Note 7 in Australia and Singapore in October, but the delay in the withdrawal process of almost a month is causing more problems and reasons of shame and embarrassment to the south Korean company.
The continuing news about the batteries flammable Note 7, together with the warnings and even prohibitions of the authorities airlines, to charge the device on board airplanes, it has forced Samsung to ask affected customers to turn off immediately their phones to avoid further damage.
Samsung apologized on Sunday for the confusion caused by the delay and said he would do everything possible to quickly resolve the current situation in the Note 7.
